Fashionable Spirit: Can your spirituality be a great accessory?

By Bonnielee Cuevas www.bonnieleecuevas.com

Can your spirituality be just as great of an accessory as your Jimmy Choo’s?  Of  course it can.  The fact is that if you are going to live in this world having a little faith can not only make your days brighter, your spirit stronger, maybe even your life more fashionable.  Spirituality is not religion.  It is believing in something bigger than yourself or being attached to something great.  Spirituality is something all of us can get a little of because it heals our hurts.  To make spirituality your best accessory try these easy tips that will give you time for you, a clear vision on what you want and tame the crazy beasts that need taming!

Give yourself 1 minute a day: If you don’t have a minute a day then this path may not be for you.  But try.  Simply set your alarm clock on your phone to count down silently for a minute and just rest.  No thoughts, or in grateful meditation or even prayer.  Rest your mind with joy and happiness and sit or lie still for one minute a day.

Discover activities that fill your heart: One of the best ways to have a fashionable spirit is to find things that make you feel good.  It could be starting a garden and making a meal out of what you have grown.  It could be volunteering for a great cause.  Or it could be reading or walking with someone that needs it.  Activities that fill your heart make your spirit well.  Bask in them and enjoy them.  Don’t think about yesterday, tomorrow, think about what you are enjoying at that very moment.

Make your spirit a priority: Making your spirituality a priority is rewarding because you develop these amazing techniques and standards to live your life by.  If you stand strong on them you will not falter, or give into the nastiness that lays out there in the world.  You will live like a warrior with great knowledge yet live in complete and utter peace.  Peace is good.

So the question that lies ahead is can your spirituality be a great accessory?  Yes, because it is something that always makes you feel good, look good and do good now that is a powerful accessory!

Exclusive RELEASE: Unlisted Kenneth Cole Video!

YouTube Video Link:  http://youtu.be/yrtCWS7hRQA

MEDIA ALERT….MEDIA ALERT….MEDIA ALERT…MEDIA ALERT

AWEARNESS, THE KENNETH COLE FOUNDATION DEBUTS THE FIRST-EVER VIGNETTE HONORING VOLUNTEERS AT THE 2012 SUNDANCE FESTIVAL

WHO:            Fashion designer and social activist, Kenneth Cole & the 2012 Sundance Film Festival

WHAT:        AWEARNESS, The Kenneth Cole Foundation collaborated with Sundance Institute on the development of a vignette celebrating the Festival volunteers that will debut at this year’s Festival.   Titled “One Good Deed,” the vignette was written by Kenneth Cole Productions and produced and directed by Ricki Stern and Anne Sundberg of Break Thru Films (directors of the documentary “Joan Rivers: A Piece of Work”).

The vignette will be shown at the start of all films being screened at the Festival on January 25th, Volunteer Appreciation Day. The vignette stars Derek Waters and is a comedic spoof about what happens when he is mistaken for a Festival volunteer after inadvertently being handed an official Kenneth Cole 2012 Sundance Film Festival volunteer jacket.   Derek’s work includes:  “Hall Pass,”  “He’s Just Not That Into You,” and creator of “Drunk History.”

Signage featuring a QR Code enabling people to watch the vignette on their mobile devices, and reminding them to thank the volunteers for their tireless efforts, will be also displayed throughout the Festival on Volunteer Appreciation Day.

“So much of what Sundance Institute is able to do is made possible only by the generous and extraordinary spirit of many individuals,” says Kenneth Cole..  “I’ve long said that it’s the volunteers who are the real stars of the Sundance Film Festival, and this collaboration was our way of thanking them for everything that they do.”

For the eighth year in a row, Kenneth Cole has designed and donated the uniform that is worn by the 1,800+ Sundance Film Festival volunteers and staff.  Presented on Day One of the Festival, this year’s iconic style is a warm red down-filled jacket featuring channel quilting, welt pockets, and zip-off sleeves.

On January 19th, Kenneth Cole announced the Gayle Stevens Sundance Institute “Volunteer of the Year” Award presented by AWEARNESS, The Kenneth Cole Foundation.   Kenneth Cole has been an advocate for the Institute’s mission and dedicated supporter of Sundance Film Festival volunteers since 2003.

Ok, ok now don’t get the wrong idea.  But a beautiful face does begin in your loo, your bathroom.  It begins with skin care.  Where do we take care of our face?  In our bathroom.  Many of us opt for what the dermatologist gives us and still can’t figure out why our skin looks the way it does?  Nothing has changed, we are still suffering from the same facial ailments that prevent our skin from getting better.  The best recommendation I can give is to stick with as many natural products as possible.  Natural is always a good thing.  BUT!  Always test out products in an inconspicuous place on your face.  Some of us have allergies to some natural products. Of course don’t disregard what your dermatologist told you but work hand in hand to find a good skin care regimen that will bring peace to your skin.  Dermatologist opt for strong chemicals so being honest with him or her will get you headed in the right direction.

Here are some of our favorite natural products that may ease some of your facial ailments:

Coconut Oil for Acne

Coconut oils has two anti-microbial agents.  It has Capric Acid and Lauric Acid.  May sound familiar?  It is found in a mothers milk and is what helps keep the baby safe from infection.

Vitamin E for the Face

Vitamin E capsules can be split in half and applied directly to the face.  Vitamin E can help with fine lines, and even out skin tone.

Green Tea for the Eyes

Green tea bags that are caffeinated can applied directly to the eyes can reduce puffiness.  Simply wet them with cold water, remove excess water and apply directly to your closed eyes.  Plus the smell is a natural and great remedy for relaxation!

Remember a beautiful face begins in your LOO!  Take care of you and take care of that gorgeous thing people see first, your face!

EXCLUSIVE: COVERGIRL ROCKS 69TH ANNUAL GOLDEN GLOBES

(January 16, 2012) – Last night’s #GoldenGlobes red carpet was truly a reflection of Hollywood fashion and glam at its best! Our spokesperson Sofia Vergara stunned in a Vera Wang gown while delivering a natural youthful COVERGIRL look. Sofia’s hit show Modern Family took home the Golden Globe for best TV comedy series but it was her speech that stole the show! A prideful Latina and role model for Latinas all around, Sofia made sure to let everyone know she was @Orgullosa of being on that stage!  Our newest addition, COVERGIRL Queen Collection ambassador & star of the latest Mission Impossible movie, Paula Patton, also stood out in a bright yellow/gold/mustard/canary dress by LA designer Monique Lhuillier as she presented a coveted Golden Globe next to Bridesmaids’ star Melissa McCarthy while rocking the latest COVERGIRL innovation,  the new LashBlast 24HR Mascara.

Sofia Vergara by Kayleen McAdams

  • Inspiration/Dress: This look is all about the lips.  We chose a bright plum lip and kept the eyes soft with bronze shadow and multiple coats of mascara. The dress is a gorgeous Vera Wang in a shade of teal and the hair (@atkinjen) is very sleek and youthful so we wanted the makeup to stand out and look youthful as well.
  • Eyes: I applied COVERGIRL Eye Enhancers 3-kit Shadow in Golden Sunset<http://www.covergirl.com/eye-enhancers-3kitshadows> all over the lid and into the crease and then applied three coats of NEW COVERGIRL LashBlast 24HR Mascara to the top lashes and one coat on the bottom.
  • Application Tip: This keeps the lipstick from bleeding, but makes it easier to apply the line with the moisture of the lipstick.
  • What’s in the clutch?: When she was ready to hit the red carpet, I sent Sofia on her way with powder, lip pencil and lipstick for reapplication.

Paula Patton by Fiona Stiles

  • Inspiration/Dress: Paula was wearing a strapless Monique Lhuillier gown, a beautiful sunny yellow.  We wanted to keep the look light and pretty, focusing on lashes and cheeks, playing up the happy element of the color.
  • Application Tip: I like to combine cream and powder blush – just make sure you apply “like to like,” so use the cream blush before you powder and the powder blush after the makeup is set.
  • Eyebrows: Next I focused on the brows.  I gave them a nice full look by adding a little to the shape with COVERGIRL Brow & Eyemakers Pencil in Midnight Brown <http://www.covergirl.com/brow&eyemakerspencil>.  The key to making it not look too heavy is to run a clean spooly through the brows after you fill in with pencil.  This softens the lines and blends the color in, making it undetectable.  Set the brows with a clear gel, brushing the hairs into the desired shape.
  • Eyes: For the eyes, I started by sweeping COVERGIRL Queen Collection Natural Hue Bronzer in Light Bronze <http://www.covergirl.com/queencollection-naturalhuebronzer> over the lid, giving the eye a wash of warmth and a little depth, while still looking like her skin.  Then I took COVERGIRL Queen Collection Eyeliner in Black Onyx <http://www.covergirl.com/queencollection-eyeliner> and drew a black line all along the upper lash line, pushing it into the lashes.  Taking a small synthetic brush, I smudged the line, softening the edge, making it less severe. I used a little black liner on the bottom as well, pushing it deep into the lashes so that when I applied NEW COVERGIRL LashBlast 24HR Mascara, the illusion  was thicker, darker lashes.
  • Lips: A soft pale, peachy lip achieved using COVERGIRL Queen Collection Lip Gloss in Starlet Sand <http://www.covergirl.com/queencollection-lipgloss>, made Paula look radiant without distracting too much from the eyes, and the wash of warm pink on the cheeks gave her a fresh, healthy flush.
  • Focus: The eyes–soft liner and strong lashes–were the focus of the look, so the lips and cheeks were just meant to compliment them.
  • What’s in the clutch?: I gave Paula her lip gloss, a few cotton buds, and some blotting papers for her to take with her on the red carpet.  I wish I could be there to touch up my clients when they get to the red carpet, but once I leave them they are on their own.  The challenge is fitting all of those touch up supplies in those teeny tiny clutches!
